Israeli-Palestinian ceasefire holding as aid arrives in Gaza

The ceasefire between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza was holding on May 22, as humanitarian aid began to enter the Israeli-blockaded enclave ravaged by 11 days of bloodshed.

As thousands of displaced Palestinians returned to their homes, and Israelis began to resume normal life on Friday, international focus turned to the reconstruction of the bomb-shattered Gaza Strip.

Israel and Gaza Celebrate Truce after 11 Days of Violence

Celebrations have broken out on the streets of Gaza as Hamas and Israel declare a truce following 11 days of fighting that has left hundreds dead including dozens of children.

Gazans were quick to take to the streets blaring horns and chanting as a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began on Friday at 2am local time.

Israel alone is responsible for Palestine violence, Turkish FM tells UNGA

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu brushed aside on May 20 "both sides" arguments for the ongoing violence in Israel and Palestine, maintaining Tel Aviv is the sole responsible party.

Speaking during a U.N. General Assembly session on the situation in Israel and Palestine, Çavuşoğlu said blame must be assigned "where it belongs."

Hamas official predicts ceasefire soon

A senior Hamas official predicted a ceasefire within days after U.S. President Joe Biden urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to seek a "de-escalation" in the fighting.

Biden talked on the telephone May 19 with Netanyahu and conveyed his expectation that tensions would be drastically reduced during the day on the road to a cease-fire.

Since Hamas began firing rockets at Jerusalem in retaliation for police clashes with protesters at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, more than 3.000 rockets have been fired at Israel.
Israel, on the other hand, carried out more than a thousand air and artillery strikes on Gaza. At least 214 Palestinians (including 62 children) and 10 Israelis were killed, with hundreds wounded on both sides.
