Last March, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly returned to Earth after spending nearly one year in space. During his 340 days aboard the International Space Station, or ISS, scientists were also observing Scott’s identical twin brother, Mark Kelly, while he hung out on Earth.

Greek scientists lead study revealing 83 new gene variants on height

Researchers have pinpointed 83 genetic variants that could affect the height of a person. The group, led by the distinguished Greek genetics professor Panos Deloukas of the Queen Mary University and William Harvey Research Institute, published their findings in ‘Nature” magazine.

Scary? Scientists create human-pig hybrid!

Scientists have created the first human-pig hybrid in a groundbreaking study that marks the first step in growing human organs inside animals.
Named chimera, after the cross-species beast in Greek mythology, the pig-human embryos were created in the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California and are the first hybrid made using two large, distantly-related species.

Sedentary life accelerates ageing, study suggests

Women who lead a sedentary lifestyle have faster-ageing cells than those who exercise every day, research suggests.
Research on 1,500 women aged 64 to 95 found those who spent many hours sitting and exercised for less than 40 minutes a day had cells that were biologically eight years older.
As people age, their cells age, causing DNA protectors to shorten and fray.

Facebook addiction could be in your genes, study suggests

Facebook addicts may be genetically programmed to love social media, a major new study has claimed. Scientists at King’s College London compared the internet habits of around 4,250 identical twins with around 4,250 non-identical twins. They found genes were responsible up to 39 percent of the time spent online.
