US to participate in biennial military exercise with Egypt for first time since Arab Spring: Report

The United States military will take part in a biennial joint military exercise with Egypt called Bright Star 2017 -- marking the first time the U.S. has participated in the joint exercise since the toppling of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, CNN reported on Aug. 15. 

Libyans 'Threatened' Med migrant Aid Boat

A Spanish migrant aid group is deciding whether to continue its Mediterranean rescue mission after it said its boat was targeted by Libya's coastguard, reported BBC.

Proactiva Open Arms, one of three groups still operating off Libya, said its boat was in international waters when it was told to head to port in Libya or come under fire.

Nearly 400 bodies recovered from Sierra Leone mudslide, hundreds feared dead

Rescue workers have recovered nearly 400 bodies from a mudslide in the outskirts of Sierra Leone's capital Freetown, the chief coroner said on Aug. 15, as morgues struggled to find space for all the dead.

Dozens of houses were buried when a mountainside collapsed in the town of Regent early on Aug. 14 - one of the deadliest natural disasters in Africa in recent years.

Turkey shares the grief of the Sierra Leonean people and is prepared to provide extensive support to the victims of a devastating mudslide, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Aug. 15
