Huge Chunk of Ice Breaks off Antarctica
A giant iceberg twice the size of Luxembourg has broken off an ice shelf on the Antarctic peninsula and is now adrift in the Weddell Sea.
"It is a really major event in terms of the size of the ice tablet that we've got now drifting away," said Anna Hogg, an expert in satellite observations of glaciers from the University of Leeds.

Iceberg the size of Mali ready to be detached from the Antarctica
A 5000 sq km iceberg, approximately the size of the island of Mali in Indonesia, is ready to be detached from West Antarctica.
According to scientists from the Swansea University in the UK, the iceberg is among the 10 biggest ever recorded and its surface is 85 times bigger than Manhattan!
Bulgaria's Govt Replaces Chair of Archives State Agency
Bulgaria's government has removed Ivan Komitski from the post of Chair of the Archives State Agency (ASA).
The new director of the agency is Mihail Gruev, according to the government's press office.
In August 2013, the socialist-led government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski dismissed then-Chair of the ASA Martin Ivanov and appointed Ivan Komitski as his successor.

Dutch adventurer reaches South Pole on tractor
Dutch actress and adventurer Manon "Tractor Girl" Ossevoort arrived at the South Pole Dec. 9 after chugging along on a tractor from Europe through Africa and across the frozen wastes of Antarctica.
"It's quite emotional, I'm very happy," Ossevoort told AFP by satellite telephone shortly after arriving at the Pole and fulfilling a decade-long dream.
