Bulgaria PM Backs Sofia-Shanghai Sister Cities Agreement

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is supportive of plans to turn the country's capital Sofia and the Chinese city of Shanghai into sister cities, the government's press office has said.

Borisov is on a five-day visit to China alongside seven ministers to attend a summit of Central and Eastern European leaders and a bilateral investment forum.

Oldest ever giant panda celebrates with bamboo, veggie cake

The oldest giant panda ever in captivity has tasted a vegetable ice cake and, of course, bamboo in celebration of her 37th birthday.

Jia Jia was recognized on July 28 as holding two Guinness World Records, the oldest ever and the oldest living giant panda.

Born in 1978, Jia Jia has lived at Hong Kong Ocean Park since 1999.

Chinese scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Zoology in Beijing radio collared six pandas (3 male, 3 female) in the Qinling Mountains of China. After six years of observation they found that pandas consume only 38% of energy needed for other similar animals – just 5.2 megajoules (MJ) instead of 13.8 MJ.

Chinese City Shenzhen Shoots Movie Dedicated to Bulgaria's Plovdiv

Two teams from the Chinese Shenzhen Media Group will be making a movie dedicated to the new European Capital of Culture - Plovdiv. The film is currently being shot and the process will last up until June 12. The announcement was made by the Bulgarian-Chinese Association for Business Development.

More than 390 confirmed dead in China ship sinking

A total of 396 people have been confirmed dead after a cruise ship capsized in China, state media said, making it the country's worst shipping disaster in nearly 70 years.

Only 14 people have been confirmed alive out of the 456 - mostly tourists aged over 60 - on board when the "Eastern Star" rapidly sunk on the Yangtze river in a storm on June 1.
