With low temperatures on Wednesday, a new cold spell will peak on Saturday without many extreme phenomena, according to meteorologists.

At least two people died when a migrant dinghy, carrying 35 people, capsized off the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos, authorities said on Wednesday.

Warmest December in 15 years in half the country
Last December was unusually warm in Greece, while in almost half of the country it was the hottest in 15 years. This was the case in Thessaly, Macedonia and Thrace, Crete and the Aegean islands, while overall, at the national level, the heat was at "extremely high levels" compared with the 2010-2019 average, Meteo.gr reported.

Heavy rainfall alert issued for 14 cities

Rain, storms forecast
There will be rain and storms mostly in the eastern parts of Greece on Friday, according to the latest forecast from the Athens National Observatory's Meteo.gr.
Rain is expected in Thrace, Central and Eastern Macedonia, eastern Thessaly, Central Greece and the Peloponnese, the Aegean and Crete.

Romania Gets a Ship to Search for Mines in the Black Sea
By the end of the year, Romania will receive a maritime minesweeper from Great Britain, with which it will join the joint initiative with Bulgaria and Turkey to search for mines in the Black Sea.
