4.8 earthquake south of Methoni

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake was felt in the town of Methoni on the southeastern coast of the Peloponnese a little after 3pm, Thursday. The epicentre of the tremor was 188km south of the town in the sea. The Athens Geodynamic Institute registered the earthquake as 4.5 on the Richter scale, while the Euro-Mediterranean seismological centre recorded it as 4.8. There were no reports of damage.

6.1 earthquake hits Chile

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck northern Chile, 144 km (90 miles) southeast of Calama, at a depth of 188 km, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said on Saturday.

The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 and struck at about 5:15 a.m. (0815 GMT), USGS said.

There were no immediate reports on social media of damage or casualties.

The research vessel RV Poseidon of the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research of Kiel in cooperation with the Geology Department of Kapodistrian University of Athens are examining the seabed and the underseas volcanoes of the islands of Cyclades with focus on the volcano of Santorini and the submarine volcano Kolumbo.

Two Weak Earthquakes Were Registered in the Pazardzhik Region

Two weak earthquakes with 2,2 and 2,6 magnitude were registered during the night in the Pazardzhik region, reported National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 20 kilometers near village Fotinovo.

No information on damage from the quake has been provided yet.
