Volcano Erupts on Spain's Canary Island, Population Evacuated
A volcano erupted on Sunday on the La Palma Canary Island. As a result of the eruption in the Cumbre Vieja national park in the south of the island huge fountains of lava and clouds of smoke and ash were released. No fatalities have been reported so far.
Volcano erupts on Spain’s Canary Islands
The Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted on Spain's Canary Islands on Sept. 19, spewing out lava, ash and a huge column of smoke after days of increased seismic activity and forcing the evacuation of around 5,000 local people, authorities said.
Cumbre Vieja, which last erupted 50 years ago, straddles a ridge in the south of La Palma island, home to around 80,000 people.

Women’s organizations angered by scientist’s abuse confession
Turkey's leading women's associations strongly condemned scientist Celal Şengör who confessed to abusing one of his female students at Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ).
"She made me so furious that I lifted Saniye's [the student] skirt and gave a smack on her butt," the 66-year-old geologist said in a Zoom meeting uploaded on the internet on Aug. 20.
Prehistoric winged lizard unearthed in Chile
Chilean scientists have announced the discovery of the first-ever southern hemisphere remains of a type of Jurassic-era "winged lizard" known as a pterosaur.
Fossils of the dinosaur which lived some 160 million years ago in what is today the Atacama desert, were unearthed in 2009.

Tsunami signs installed across Istanbul amid quake warnings
Warning signs directing residents to evacuation areas in case of a tsunami have been installed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality as concerns over a potential disaster of a large earthquake that is expected to hit Turkey continue to mount.

The epicenter was near the city of Acapulco at a depth of 20 kilometers, and the quake was also felt in Mexico City, which is 370 kilometers away from the coast, Reuters reports.
