Fragments of asteroid with mystery origin are found outside Berlin

Scientists have found pieces of a meteorite that fell near Berlin just after midnight on January 21. It is a rare find, from an asteroid that was identified just before it entered Earth's atmosphere. Only a handful of such events in the recent past have allowed astronomers to trace an incoming rock's origin in the solar system.

A bright light falling in the sky was noticed by hundreds of people in Sofia, Vidin, Lom, Ikhtiman, Plovdiv and other cities and villages in the country minutes before 10 p.m. last night. Users on social networks also published footage from security cameras showing a ball of bright light, which is supposed to be a meteorite.

Greece in moderate quake phase over last two months

In the past two months, Greece has seen an increase in seismic activity, with moderately strong earthquakes that do not exceed a Richter scale threshold of five degrees.

Indicatively, three locations, Lesvos, the sea area north of Crete, and Evia, have experienced an increase in seismic activity, but this coincidence is not thought to be related to usual geodynamic processes.

Casualties as strong quake rocks southern Iran

At least five people were killed and 19 injured when a strong earthquake shook southern Iran early on July 2, the state news agency IRNA reported.

The 6.0 magnitude quake hit 100 kilometres (60 miles) southwest of the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, the US Geological Survey said. The quake struck just a minute after a 5.7 tremor.

Meteorite-like object found on field up for sale

A Turkish farmer who found a meteorite-like stone last year on his field in the southwestern province of Denizli now wants to sell the object to potential buyers.

Ali Urhan, a resident of the province's Çivril district, found pieces of stone that are not unique to the region and attracted attention with their dark-colored structure while irrigating his field last summer.

New earthquake in Kosovo and Metohija: Two in a row within 48 minutes

As it is stated, the earthquake was recorded this morning around 4.08 a.m. in the vicinity of Stimlje.
It was the second earthquake in the same region in less than an hour, as an earthquake in the same region was registered this morning at around 3.20 a.m., with a magnitude of 2.1 on the Richter scale.
