Russian and Serbian positions on current international problems are similar or close, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

A statement issued after the two countries' foreign ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Ivica Dacic, met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, said that relations between Russia and Serbia have the character of a strategic partnership.

Relations between countries come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from unmitigated enmity to total cordiality. But the strong historical friendship and the deep cultural and religious ties between Greece and Georgia put our bilateral relations in the league of their own.

Russia rejected April 30 a new claim that one of its jets had intercepted a U.S. reconnaissance plane over the Baltic in an "unsafe" manner, and accused Washington of sending "spy-planes" into its airspace.
