Georgian–Russian espionage controversy

The decision by Tbilisi authorities to resume flights between Georgia and Russia prompted the opposition to protest against the government on Friday.

Protesters gathered at the airport carried banners reading "You are not welcome" as the first direct flight in almost four years arrived from Russia, the BBC reported. People also gathered in front of the parliament in Tbilisi.

At least 250,000 Russian police officers and their families are expected to visit Turkey starting from August, after Moscow removed a ban that had prevented members of the Russian security forces from travelling to some countries.

Russia said Monday its security services had detained a US citizen in Moscow accused of spying, the latest in a series of espionage cases between Russia and the West.
