Bulgaria Heads for Knife-Edge Presidential Race

With less than a week to go before the presidential elections in Bulgaria on November 6, the likely winner is proving difficult to predict.

Latest polls have shown that the successor to President Rossen Plevneliev, backed in 2011 by Bulgaria's governing centre-right GERB party, will not be elected in the first round on Sunday.

Bulgarian MPs: Ceiling of 35 Voting Sections Abolished for EU countries

With 108 votes "for", 35 "against" and 18 abstentions, parliamentary deputies adopted at first reading the amendments to the Electoral Code submitted by Krasimir Velchev, Danail Kirilov and other GERB deputies. The same was proposed by Nayden Zelenogorski and deputies from the Reformist Bloc.

Mestan: Oresharski Is Not DPS' Real Candidate

Bulgaria's Presidential Elections: DOST Party Endorses GERB Candidate

DOST head Lyutvi Mestan has announced his party will back the candidacy of Tsetska Tsacheva, the nominee of Bulgaria's main ruling party, in the presidential elections.

Mestan's announcement comes to no surprise, as he earlier indicated the Democrats for Responsibility, Solidarity and Tolerance (DOST) may endorse GERB's candidate unless he ran himself as leader of the party.

Bulgaria's Cap on Number of Polling Stations Abroad to Be Abolished for EU

The restriction for the opening of up to 35 electoral sections will be abolished for EU member-states but it will remain valid for the rest of the world, decided deputies in the legal commission who discussed at first reading the 12 draft bills for amendments to the Electoral Code.
