President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said sports are about “peace and brotherhood”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has strongly denounced the recent act of burning the holy Quran in the Swedish capital Stockholm, stressing that such hate crimes cannot be justified as freedom of thought.

This year, Berlin hosts an exclusive exhibition for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary for celebrating the Germany and Turkey dialogue.

The occasion is the 60th anniversary of the recruitment agreement between Germany and Turkey as a central commemorative date for social diversity and the 10th anniversary of the artist residency program on the Bosporus.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Turkey on Oct. 16 for talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before leaving office after 16 years in power.

Merkel on arrived at the Huber Mansion in Istanbul to meet with Erdoğan.

Merkel and Erdoğan boarded a golf cart and visited the beach area of the mansion.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Turkey on Oct. 16 to discuss bilateral relations and international issues, her spokesman said on Oct. 8.

Speaking at a news conference in Berlin, Steffen Seibert said Merkel will visit Istanbul for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Turkey and Germany have a unique relationship thanks to the contributions of Turkish migrants since the 1960s, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has said, reiterating that Turkey is a strategic partner of Germany in terms of its political weight.

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Faruk Kaymakcı on Sept. 29 praised Germany's contribution to the advancement of relations between Turkey and the European Union. 

Addressing a webinar on Turkish-German relations and prospects for the post-Merkel era, Kaymakcı drew attention to the special ties between the two countries.

Turkey does not have the capacity to shoulder a new migration burden, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during a phone call on Sept. 14.

Germany's envoy in Turkey said on Aug. 4 that he was "pleased" that bilateral relations between Turkey and Germany are "extremely close and trusting."

"Our political relations are extremely close at all levels of government and covering also non-governmental organizations," Jurgen Schulz told reporters in the Turkish capital Ankara.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said he will visit Turkish Cyprus to mark the anniversary of the Turkish military intervention on the island in 1974 and that he would give "good news" there.
