Gezi Park protests

The aim of the opposition's "justice march" from Ankara to Istanbul was to draw attention to shortcomings and errors in Turkey's justice system, to display the feelings of the people in the face of injustices.

But there were also other positive results of the march that were not calculated before it started. Let me mention a few of these unintended consequences.

Hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in Istanbul at the end of a 450km "justice" march against the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reported BBC.

Large numbers have joined the march since it began in Ankara on 15 June.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on July 8 that a meeting by human rights activists in Istanbul was held with the intent as the continuation of the last year's failed coup attempt. "They gathered for a meeting which was so to say the continuation of July 15.

Amnesty International has called on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to release 10 human rights activists, including its Turkey head, who were detained in Istanbul on July 5 in a video shared on its Twitter account.The video reminded the president that the organization campaigned for his release 19 years ago when he was arrested for reciting a poem while acting as Istanbul mayor.

On July 6, an Istanbul court rejected a demand from the family of the young Gezi Park protests victim Berkin Elvan to arrest a police officer charged with killing Elvan "with probable intent."

Istanbul police detained seven people on July 2 when a group of transgender rights activists attempted to march to the city's famous Taksim Square carrying rainbow flags, despite an official ban on the event.

A court in the southern province of Antalya on June 28 sentenced a police officer to four years and two months in prison for beating a man with sticks and truncheons during Turkey's Gezi Park protests in 2013.

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has prepared a list of 12 guidelines warning participants in the party's "justice march" from Ankara to Istanbul against any "provocations," its Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said on June 27.
