Kaminis to remain mayor if he is voted party leader

Giorgos Kaminis said Wednesday he will stay on as Athens mayor even if he is elected leader of Greece's new center-left party in November.

"If I am elected head of the center-left [party] I will not leave the Athens municipality as I was elected for a specific tenure and my political identity was known," Kaminis told Skai on Wednesday.

Maniatis launches center-left party leadership bid

PASOK MP Yiannis Maniatis on Wednesday announced his candidacy to become leader of Greece's new center-left political party.

"My ambition is that [the new party] will render modern social democracy a main player in our country's political developments," Maniatis told journalists after submitting his candidacy.

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis has officially announced his candidacy for Greece's a new center-left political party that aspires to establish itself between SYRIZA and New Democracy.

"The country needs a radical change of political orientation that only a big progressive democratic party can guarantee," Kaminis told a press conference in Athens on Monday.
