New Democracy's shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos on Friday said Greece will not accept any challenge to international law by Turkey, following a meeting of the  National Council for Foreign Affairs (ESEP).

"We will not tolerate any challenge to international law and the existing situation in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean," he said.

A meeting on Wednesday between party representatives to discuss Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias's proposal for the creation of a National Council on Foreign Policy was disrupted after New Democracy's Giorgos Koumoutsakos stormed out in protest that other foreign policy topics were not included on the agenda.

New Democracy's shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos took a dig Sunday over a tweet by the country's Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias in which he outlined the principles of sound foreign policy-making.

"The absolutely fundamental, obvious and self-evident [elements] are presented as the definition of 'inspired' foreign policy," Koumoutsakos tweeted.

New Democracy's shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos on Thursday criticised the lack of information from the government on the rift caused between Greece and Russia, after it was revealed on Wednesday that Greece would expel two Russian diplomats and bar two more Russians from entering the country.

The invitation extended to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) by the member-states of NATO cannot be recalled, New Democracy's shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos said on Thursday, speaking at TV station Skai.

Koumoutsakos said the invitation will start a series of procedures, some of which technical, which will produce "specific results."

Greece's conservative opposition has criticized Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias over comments he made during a trial where he was representing the Greek state, in Nicosia on Monday.

The government and the main conservative opposition New Democracy party clashed Thursday over the progress of United Nations-mediated talks aimed at breaking a deadlock between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia over the latter's name.

The Greek Defense Ministry has been assured that the charges against the two Greek soldiers who accidentally crossed into Turkey last week will not change and that they will not be tried for espionage, Skai understands.

New Democracy foreign affairs spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos criticized the government on Friday that it has not done all it could to avert a climax of Turkish aggression in the Aegean.

Speaking on Real FM radio station Koumoutsakos, a career diplomat, said that the government "has made a wrong judgment regarding Turkey's intentions."

Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias is on Thursday due to brief Parliament's cross-party committee for defense and foreign affairs in the wake of last week's visit to Greece by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Kotzias called on Monday for the committee to convene on Thursday.
