Climate warming leads to accelerated melting of ice around the south pole

The number of Antarctic penguins in western Antarctica has decreased by 77% since their last census. It was in the 70's of the 20th century. According to scientists studying climate change, the population of penguins is declining dramatically.

Over the past 10 years, ocean temperatures hit record highs.

The world's oceans were the hottest in recorded history in 2019, scientists said on Jan. 14, as manmade emissions warmed seas at an ever-increasing rate with potentially disastrous impacts on Earth's climate.

The Oxford Dictionary chose the word 2019. It is climate emergency. 

The Dictionary defines the term as "a situation in which urgent action is required to reduce or halt climate change and avoid potentially irreversible environmental damage resulting from it."

In the last year - from September 2018 to September 2019, the use of the phrase has increased by 10 700 percent.

The willingness to tackle climate change that had started with the Paris deal has been disappearing, according to an expert on
environmental and climate change policies.

"[U.S. President Donald] Trump's position pushed others to be more hesitant," says Semra Cerit Mazlum of Marmara University's Department of Political Science and International Relations.

In that capacity, Serbia will participate in the 2020 session in Glasgow, the environment ministry said.
At the closing of the conference, signatories to the UN Convention on Climate Change COP 25 in Madrid today, Serbia was also elected a member of the Convention Bureau on behalf of the Eastern European Group of countries, the statement added.

Climate change can cause much faster and higher levels of ocean, a study of the previous warming period (125,000 years ago) showed, BTA reported, quoted by NOVA.

The water then rose 10 meters above current levels to 3 meters per century, according to scientists at the Australian National University. This scenario would be a disaster for hundreds of millions of people.
