Homage to Maria Callas with a grand ‘Medea’
In a tribute marking the centennial of Maria Callas' birth, the Greek National Opera is premiering Luigi Cherubini's "Medea" on Tuesday. This major international co-production involves three leading North American opera houses: the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Canadian Opera Company and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Wozzeck | Athens | January 31 & February 2
French playwright and director Olivier Py breathes new life into Alban Berg's internationally acclaimed opera "Wozzeck," which is on stage at the Greek National Opera's Stavros Niarchos Hall in southern Athens. GNO baritone Tassis Christoyannis stars in the title role and Vassilis Christopoulos conducts the GNO Orchestra.

Niarchos Foundation gives National Opera 20 mln euro grant
The Greek National Opera (GNO) has received a 20-million-euro grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, which will be distributed over a period of four years to help the country's only opera company implement an ambitious plan for boosting its international profile.

The Greek National Opera presents "Stefanos Lazaridis: Cynical Romantic," an exhibition paying homage to the late Ethiopia-born Greek stage designer who was best known for his work in opera. Other than designing the sets for more than 30 productions for the English National Opera, Lazaridis also served as artistic director of the GNO.
