The Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry on Dec. 13 brought back a historical statue of Kybele, pre-historic goddess of fertility, which was smuggled to Israel in 1960s and sold there.

The statue was finally returned after hard work of Turkish authorities after they proved its origins and halted audition process in the U.S.

Idols, clay lamps and amphorae, drinking cups, perfume vases, jewelry and other utilitarian and decorative objects make up the 300,000 or so finds unearthed during excavation work for the Thessaloniki metro. 

In "The Messenger," Australian sculptor Sam Jinks draws inspiration from the statue of the goddess Iris that once graced the west pediment of the Parthenon. Iris was a messenger goddess with the ability to communicate between the gods and mankind, moving freely between the realm of the living and the Underworld.

Centuries later, the ancient theater of Metropolis, the city of the Mother Goddess, has rejoined one of its most precious artifacts: The seat of honor with griffins from the Hellenistic period.

Archaeologists have discovered a unique statue of the goddess Isis and a marble head of satire in the Sanctuary of the Nymphs and Aphrodite near the Dimitrovgrad village of Kasnakovo.

Valuable finds are extremely well preserved and according to experts, their value may exceed BGN 1 mln.
