Turkish Opposition Meeting Raises Hopes of Unity Against Erdogan

Three opposition leaders meet to discuss return to parliamentary system

The leaders of three opposition parties have held an announced meeting to discuss the future composition of the Nation Alliance, as well as ongoing preparations over the main pillars of the road map for the return of the parliamentary system once they come to power in the next elections.

Nation Alliance’s candidate will be 13th president: Akşener

İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener on Dec. 13 said she believes that the presidential candidate of the Nation Alliance will be elected by the nation in the next elections.

"I do not know when the election will take place, but I believe that the candidate of the Nation Alliance will be the 13th president," Akşener said.

İYİ Party criticizes MHP leader over comments on Ankara mayor

İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener on Dec. 1 reacted to Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli over his remarks on Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş.

"We have got Yavaş's back; there are people of Ankara," she said, addressing her party's parliamentary group meeting.

İYİ Party leader calls for early elections

 

Opposition İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener on Nov. 24 called for early elections, criticizing the government's economic policies.

The Turkish nation is getting poorer with the latest economic difficulties, she said, addressing her party's weekly parliamentary group meeting.

In just one week, Turkey's debt increased by 1.9 trillion liras, Akşener stated.

CHP, İYİ Party call for early elections

 

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and İYİ (Good) Party chair Meral Akşener on Nov. 17 called for early elections.

"We are making a clear call: You [government] cannot run the country. Go to elections as soon as possible," Kılıçdaroğlu said in a joint press conference with the İYİ Party leader.

İYİ Party leader vows policies ‘to keep women alive’

İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener on Nov. 17 pledged to make necessary legislation in the fight against femicide and violence against women if her party comes to power.

Speaking at her party's parliamentary group meeting, Akşener recalled a recent femicide in which yet another woman was brutally murdered by a man while walking on a street in Istanbul.
