Bulgarian Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov announced on Friday that the revenue collected for January could exceed that for the same month last year by between BGN 400 and 500 M.

Goranov said that in case this happens, it will be the first time to record a budget surplus in the month of January since 2009.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has demanded that Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Governor Ivan Iskrov step down.

He has also made clear the government is not considering to offer him any "peaceful heaven", against the backdrop of earlier media reports.

Goranov, born in 1977, holds  a degree in economics from D. Tsenov Academy of Economics in Svishtov.

From 2001 until 2009 Goranov was head of Social Expenditures department at the Finance Ministry.
