Patti Smith to perform on Slovenian-Italian border
Patti Smith, a celebrated punk poet, singer and artist, will perform on the border between Slovenia and Italy in October in a prelude to the 2025 European Capital of Culture hosted by Nova Gorica and Gorizia.
The 5 October concert will be held at a new venue in place of a former border crossing known as Rožna Dolina (Valley of Roses) in Slovenian or Casa Rossa in Italian.

Slovenian minority grateful to Matarella as his terms runs out
Trieste – An umbrella organisation of the Slovenian minority in Italy has expressed gratitude to Italian President Sergio Matarella as his term is running out, noting his important institutional stance. It said this stance had played played an essential role both nationally and locally in building mutual respect and strengthening the country’s reputation.
Pahor and Mattarella to visit twin border cities next week
Ljubljana – The presidents of Slovenia and Italy, Borut Pahor and Sergio Mattarella, will visit Nova Gorica and Gorizia, the cities on each side of the Slovenian-Italian border, next Thursday to hail their title as the 2025 European Capital of Culture. On the occasion Pahor will decorate Mattarella with Slovenia’s top state honour.
Ceremony remembers return of Primorska to the homeland
Idrija – The main ceremony remembering the return of the western Primorska region to the homeland will be held in the town of Idrija, west of Ljubljana, on Saturday. The event will also mark 74 years since the implementation of the Paris Peace Treaty under which Primorska was reunited with Slovenia after being under Italian rule since the end of WWI.
Cross-border pride parade organised in Gorizia, Nova Gorica
Nova Gorica/Gorizia – A first cross-border pride parade took place in the area between the Italian and Slovenian cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica on Saturday, bringing together around a thousand participants who want to remove borders and expand rights.
Giro again passing through Slovenia after 17 years
Nova Gorica/Goriška Brda – The famous road cycling race Giro d’Italia returned to Slovenia after 17 years, as Sunday’s 15th stage from Grado to Gorizia also made a turn to Slovenia’s picturesque wine-growing region of Brda and the city of Nova Gorica this afternoon.
This was the sixth time that the Grand Tour race passed through Slovenia, after 1922, 1971, 1994, 2001 and 2004.

Giro d’Italia to visit Slovenia again
Milan – The Giro d’Italia, one of the three iconic Grand Tour cycling races, will take a detour through Slovenia this year. The 15th stage will take the riders to the winemaking region of Goriška Brda and the city of Nova Gorica in the west of the country on Sunday, 23 May.

Nova Gorica wins development breakthrough award
Nova Gorica – Nova Gorica won the Golden Stone award for the biggest development breakthrough among Slovenia’s 212 municipalities at an online event that heard President Borut Pahor note the border city’s unique opportunity to link with its Italian counterpart into a single city.

Nova Gorica to be 2025 European Capital of Culture
Nova Gorica – The European Capitals of Culture Expert Panel has recommended the Slovenian border city of Nova Gorica to be the European Capital of Culture 2025 along with Germany’s Chemnitz. Nova Gorica has been bidding for the title together with Gorizia on the Italian side of the border with the slogan Go! Borderless.

110th anniversary of Rusjan's pioneer flight marked
The documentary called The Flying Rusjan Brothers, directed by Boris Palčič, will be screened in the evening in Eda Center, a commercial and business centre in Nova Gorica dedicated to Rusjan's memory.
