Turkey opens two more emergency hospitals in Istanbul
Turkey on May 31 opened an emergency hospital in the metropolis Istanbul as part of the country's continued fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The new Yeşilköy Prof. Dr. Murat Dilmener Emergency Hospital was named after a Turkish doctor and academic who died due to the virus on May 3.
Erdoğan offers condolences to George Floyd's family
Turkey's president offered condolences on May 28 to the family of George Floyd over his death.
"I believe that the perpetrators of this inhumane act shall receive the punishment they deserve. We will be monitoring the issue," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Twitter.
"I remember with respect George Floyd and extend my condolences to his family and loved ones," he added.
Turkey to lift inter-city travel restrictions and open cafes, parks on June 1
President Tayyip Erdoğan said on May 28 Turkey will lift restrictions on intercity travel and allow restaurants, cafes, parks and sports facilities to reopen from June 1 as it eases restrictions imposed to curb the coronavirus outbreak.
Following a cabinet meeting, he said that restrictions would remain place on the movements of those aged over 65 and under 18.
Germany weighs lifting travel curb for Turkey
Germany will lift a travel ban for fellow European Union countries from June 15 and is considering removing the curbs for third nations, including Turkey, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has said.

Erdoğan speaks with Algerian, Indonesian leaders over phone
Turkey's president on May 26 spoke on the phone with his Algerian and Indonesian counterparts, according to an official statement.
Turkey's Communications Directorate said Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke separately with Algeria's Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Indonesia's Joko Widodo.
Former chief of General Staff dies at 88
Former Gen. İsmail Hakkı Karadayı, 88, who served between 1994 and 1998 as Turkey's chief of General Staff, died in Istanbul.
He had been undergoing treatment for cancer in a private hospital.
Born in the central province of Çankırı in 1932, Karadayı graduated from military school in 1951.
