Erdoğan hails 'healthcare army' fighting virus

Turkey's president on April 8 praised the nation's "healthcare army" of nearly half a million medical staff and 360,000 support personnel fighting the coronavirus outbreak.

"No virus, no outbreak is stronger than Turkey," said Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a letter addressed to the Turkish people who are older than 65 and restricted from leaving their homes due to pandemic.

Construction of field hospital at Istanbul airport site begins

Construction work to build a field hospital at the site of the now-closed Atatürk Airport in Istanbul has begun.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced earlier this week two more hospitals with a capacity of 1,000 beds each will be established in the country's largest city as part of efforts in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

Turkish FM, counterparts discuss virus via video link

Turkey's foreign minister discussed on April 7 the fight against coronavirus pandemic with 11 of his counterparts.

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Twitter that he held the fourth teleconference meeting with his counterparts from Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Indonesia, Morocco, Peru, Singapore, South Africa, and the U.K.

Turkey distributes free face masks to citizens

Turkey started distributing free face masks to citizens to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Citizens can apply for free masks through the country's postal services' e-commerce website, ePttAVM.com.

This week, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that people cannot enter shops and marketplaces without face masks.

Turkey's coronavirus death toll reaches 574 with 27,069 cases, minister says

Turkey's death toll from the new coronavirus rose by 73 on Saturday to total 574, and new confirmed cases rose by 3,135 to bring the country's total to 27,069, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.

He added that 20,065 tests for the COVID-19 disease had been performed in Turkey in the last 24 hours.
