Magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolts eastern Turkey
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit the Turkish eastern province of Elazığ on Dec. 27 morning, said the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The quake was also felt in Malatya, Adıyaman, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, Batman and Diyarbakır provinces.

New governors in 41 provinces appointed: Official Gazette
Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan appointed new governors in 41 provinces, a presidential ruling in the Official Gazette showed on June 10.
As part of the move, 23 governors were shuffled between provinces and 18 were newly appointed, the statement said.
Culture and arts season to open in September
Culture and Tourism Deputy Minister Özgül Özkan Yavuz has said the art season that was shut down early due to the COVID-19 pandemic will open one month earlier this year.
Speaking to the state-run Anadolu Agency, Yavuz provided information about the details of 2020-2021 culture and arts season.

Tzitzikostas elected President of the European Committee of the Regions
Governor of Central Macedonia region Aspostolos Tzitzikostas has been elected President of the European Committee of the Regions.
Tzitzikostas, who is the first Greek to assume the post, replaces Belgium's Karl-Heinz Lambertz. His candidacy had been backed by all political groups in the committee.
Vasco Cordeiro, regional governor of the Azores, was elected vice president.
Turkish Nobel laureate's home to open as museum
Nobel chemistry laureate Aziz Sancar's former home in southeastern Turkey will be converted into a museum.
Local authorities in the province of Mardin prepared the project to restore a part of the three-story and 36-room historical mansion in the Savur district, where the Sancar family once lived.

Over 2,500 irregular migrants held last week
More than 2,500 irregular migrants were held across Turkey over the past week, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from security sources.
Turkish gendarmerie forces held some 1,350 of the migrants in the northwestern province of Edirne, which borders Greece and Bulgaria.
