Call for cost-benefit study for Cyprus-Greece power interconnector

Τhe Cypriot government will request that Greece's Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) carry out a cost-benefit study as regards the Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection (Great Sea Interconnector), Cypriot Energy Minister Giorgos Papanastasiou said on Tuesday.

Cyprus mulls joining Great Sea Interconnector

Cyprus is considering participating in the ambitious Great Sea Interconnector project, formerly known as EuroAsia, according to statements from government officials. The proposal, jointly submitted by the ministers of energy, commerce and industry, George Papanastasiou, and finance, Makis Keravnos, signals Cyprus' readiness to join forces with Israel and Greece in the massive project.

Cyprus speeds up gas field development

The consortium licensed for Cyprus' "Aphrodite" gas field will update the development and production plan of the field by March 31, as announced by the minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, George Papanastasiou. He pointed out that a floating production unit (FPU) above the gas field would be an essential plan of the new agreement.

Agreement reached on Aphrodite

The Cyprus government and US energy company Chevron have successfully concluded negotiations on the development of the Aphrodite gas field, marking a significant breakthrough, according to a report by The Associated Press. 

The Aphrodite gas field, the first to be discovered beneath the seafloor off Cyprus, is estimated to hold 4.2 trillion cubic feet of gas.
