Migrant sailboat sinks in Aegean, at least 17 missing

A sailboat carrying migrants sank in in the Aegean sea between Turkey and Greece on July 7 and at least 17 people were missing, Greek authorities said. 

Greece's maritime ministry said Greek and Turkish rescue efforts had saved 16 of the between 33 and 37 migrants believed to be on board when the boat went down between the Greek islands of Farmakonisi and Agathonisi. 

British Ambassador's message following the referendum

British Ambassador to Greece John Kittmer made a statement following the Greek referendum:

“The Greek people expressed a decisive view in Sunday’s referendum at a critical moment in the economic crisis. Greece is a proud nation, an ally for nearly 200 years of shared history, and we respect the decision of its people.

France States Grexit Opposition

French PM Manuel Valls said a possible ''Grexit'' would have a massive negative impact over EU economies.

He made the statement in an interview for a French radio station Tuesday.

''France ill do everything so that Greece remains in the Eurozone because that's where it belongs, at the heart of the European project,'' Valls noted.

Photos of a Greek pensioner crying in a heap outside a Thessaloniki bank on Friday went viral as they depicted the desperation of pensioners’ plight in Greece, especially since the imposition of capital controls. The identity of the weeping pensioner in the photos was Giorgos Chatzifiotis, aged 77, a Greek who had worked at some point in Germany as an immigrant.

Reactions to ‘no’ vote by Schaeuble, other Euro leaders

Reactions continued on Monday afternoon in the wake of the landslide “no” vote a day earlier in the Greek referendum, with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble noting from Warsaw that Yanis Varoufakis’ successor will also have a tough time working out a deal with European creditors.
