Varoufakis says he will accept police protection after attack
Yanis Varoufakis, leader of the small party MeRA25, said on Tuesday he had decided to accept the police protection provided by the Citizen Protection Ministry, after he was viciously attacked outside a restaurant in central Athens on Friday night.
Fresh poll gives ND 3.9-point lead over SYRIZA
A new survey published on Saturday gave ruling New Democracy a lead of 3.9 points over SYRIZA.
The poll by GPO on behalf of Parapolitika newspaper was the latest after the deadly train crash on February 28 and shows that ruling ND's lead over the leftist party has been cut.

Police arrest 17-year-old suspect over attack on Varoufakis
Police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with a violent assault on ex-finance minister Yanis Varoufakis in the central Athens neighborhood of Exarchia on Friday, state broadcaster ERT reported on Saturday.
Music students stage protest concert

Varoufakis blames ‘hired thugs’ for assault
Former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis has blamed "hired thugs" for the assault on him on in an Athens restaurant in which his nose was fractured.
"They were not anarchists, leftists, communists or members of any movement," Varoufakis said in a tweet.

Lawmaker Varoufakis attacked in Exarchia, has nose broken
A group of people attacked MP and former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis at a restaurant in the Athens neighborhood of Exarchia, breaking his nose.
The group spotted Varoufakis at the restaurant on Valtetsiou St., or was informed of his presence, and confronted him; one or more of the group eventually hit Varoufakis in the face.

Cyprus GDP and employment on the rise
Cyprus' gross domestic product andemployment increased during the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter, while in the eurozone GDP remained stable and employment rose and in the European Union GDP fell and employment went up, according to estimates released by Eurostat, the statistical service of the EU.

Greece 2nd in eurozone growth
Greece achieved the second highest growth rate in the eurozone in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, according to data published by Eurostat on Wednesday.
