Greek police arrest 8 over attack on government lawmaker
Greek police say they have arrested eight people on suspicion of involvement in a mob attack by alleged far-rightists on a lawmaker with the governing Syriza party.
Petros Konstantineas was hospitalized Sunday with non-life-threatening injuries after the beating outside a soccer stadium in the southern town of Kalamata.
Syriza described it as a "fascist" attack.
Police chief orders probe into journalist assault
The chief of the Greek Police (ELAS), Lieutenant General Aristides Andrikopoulos, ordered on Tuesday an internal investigation into a journalist's claims that he was verbally and physically attacked by riot police officers during a protest against the Macedonia name deal in Thessaloniki on Saturday.

Three suspects in Boutaris attack to appear before court
Three out of the four suspects detained in connection with a mob attack on Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris last weekend will appear before a misdemeanors court Wednesday to face charges of grievous bodily harm, aggravated damages and breaching the peace.
The fourth accused, a 17-year-old man, will be tried by a court for minors on October 4.
Four charged in Greece over attack on Thessaloniki mayor
Greek authorities have charged four men over a weekend mob attack on the 75-year-old mayor of the country's second-largest city, carried out in an apparent venting of nationalist sentiment.
The suspects, aged between 17 and 36, were formally accused of grievous bodily harm and breach of the peace over Saturday's attack on Yiannis Boutaris.
Police make 11 arrests after Grigoropoulos rally
A total of 11 people were arrested and 26 detained during the rioting that broke out on Wednesday at a demonstration to mark the nine-year anniversary since the murder of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a policeman in central Athens.

GD member guilty over attack on student
An Athens criminal court on Wednessday found Christos Zervos, a member of the far-right Golden Dawn party, guilty of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with an attack on a student in March outside the party headquarters on Mesogeion Avenue, northern Athens.

Trial of defendant who stabbed Elefsina mayor postponed
The trial of the 35-year-old man who stabbed Elefsina Mayor Giorgos Tsoukalas in the thigh earlier this week has been postponed until September 8. The decision was taken by the court on Wednesday so that Tsoukalas, who remains in hospital after undergoing surgery on Monday, can attend as a witness.

A heavily pregnant woman has had acid thrown over her baby bump while her partner suffered injuries to his face in a horrific East London attack.
The expectant mum and man were rushed to hospital after being being sprayed with a corrosive substance in Bow in the early hours of Tuesday, July 4.

Acid attacks are on the rise in London. The Metropolitan police registered 458 offences involving noxious or corrosive liquids or the throwing of corrosive fluids with intent to do grievous bodily harm for last year. From January 2015 to April 2017 the police force recorded 833 attacks that fell into this category.

Student, 25, to face prosecutor over attack on university professor
A 25-year-old psychology student who was arrested on Wednesday for an attack on Panteio University professor Angelos Syrigos was to face a prosecutor on charges of assault and causing grievous bodily harm on Thursday.
Another two people who were detained in connection with the assault were released after no incriminating evidence was found against them.
