Chamber of Commerce and Industry expects 1.1% GDP growth in 2023

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) forecasts a baseline-scenario GDP growth of 1.1% for Slovenia in 2023. Growth is expected to pick up to 2.3% in 2024 and to 3.0% in 2025. The GZS’s analysts, who still projected 3.2% growth for 2023 in April, expect household and government spending to increase by 1.5% next year and gross investment to rise by 4.0%.

Agreement signed to boost companies’ involvement in CERN

Ljubljana – The Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport to cooperate in promoting Slovenian companies’ cooperation with CERN in Geneva, which operates the world’s largest particle physics laboratory and is the site of the world’s largest particle accelerator.

Businesses unhappy with reversal of tax reform

Ljubljana – The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) is unhappy with the government’s plan to revoke parts of the tax reform adopted by the previous government, including a continued increase in the general tax relief for all earners. In a written response to the proposal, the GZS hails the government’s plan for a comprehensive tax reform to be be passed by 2024.

GZS backtracks on appeal against banning Russia from SWIFT

Ljubljana – The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) has backtracked on an appeal to the government that Slovenia should not support Russia’s exclusion from the international payment system SWIFT. “We accept all sanctions that the EU will adopt due to the aggression on Ukraine,” GZS director general Aleš Cantarutti said in a written statement on Saturday.

Chamber of Commerce supports proposed cryptocurrency tax

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) expressed its support on Wednesday for the new draft bill on cryptocurrency taxation, as it believes the additional state budget revenue could contribute to a tax relief on net wages, which the GZS has long advocated for.

Liquidity loans worth EUR 35m available to hauliers

Ljubljana – Hauliers, who have been severely hit by the Covid pandemic, can now count on EUR 35 million in loans to weather liquidity issues, while they can also look forward to some 10 million in grants in coming months.

A contract on financing and implementing the new scheme was signed on Monday by Infrastructure Minister Jernej Vrtovec and SIB Banka chairman Sibil Svilan.
