Three inactive vaccines ready for human testing, says Turkish Health Minister

Turkey's health minister announced early on Jan. 6 that three inactive COVID-19 vaccine candidates are ready for human trials. 

Fahrettin Koca said 17 different COVID-19 vaccine candidates are currently being developed in Turkey, and among them, "three of our candidate vaccines have applied to the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency for starting testing on humans."

Turkey closely monitoring COVID-19 vaccine volunteers

Volunteers for trials of the coronavirus vaccine in Turkey are being closely monitored at every stage, according to authorities.

The phase-3 trials of the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine which began on Sept. 15 are ongoing in two stages.

They include high-risk health care workers and medium-risk volunteers, according to information received by Anadolu Agency.

British drugs group AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford said on Monday they will seek regulatory approval for their coronavirus vaccine after "effective" trials, in the latest potential boost to curbing the global outbreak.

The partners announced that while the vaccine showed an average 70-percent effectiveness, the level jumped to 90 percent depending on dosage. 

Thousands of people already volunteer for Chinese virus vaccine

Thousands of citizens have already applied to take part in the tests for a candidate COVID-19 vaccine being developed by China, the country's health minister has said.

The officials on Nov. 20 announced that applications from ordinary citizens would be collected from citizens for the Chinese jab, whose phase three trials on volunteer health workers began in mid-September in Turkey.
