Nobel laureate Aziz Sancar maps DNA damage of cigarette smoke for first time

A new method capable of mapping out the damage caused to DNA by cigarette smoking for the first time has been developed by Turkish scientist Aziz Sancar, the 2015 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, and his team from the University of North Carolina's School of Medicine. 

Survey: Greeks are heaviest smokers in European Union

Greece is the EU's heaviest-smoking country, a survey published by the European Commission for World No Tobacco Day has found.

Thirty-seven percent of Greeks are smokers, according to the report, which also showed that Greece had the smallest proportion of people, 44 percent, who said they've never smoked a cigarette.

World Health Organization: Tobacco Kills 7M per Year, Wreaks Environmental Havoc

Tobacco kills 7.2 million people and costs the world economy .4 trillion every year as well as leading to deforestation, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Tuesday, quoted by Anadolu Agency. 

In a statement released ahead of World No Tobacco Day, the UN's health agency stressed the environmental impact of smoking.
