Property sales stabilized in 2016 in Turkey amid sharp fall in foreign interest

House sales in Turkey increased in a modest trend by 4 percent in 2016 compared to the previous year reaching 1.3 million, although sales to foreigners dropped sharply, according to a fresh data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK).

Sales to foreigners declined by 20.3 percent compared to the previous year, dropping to 18,189. 

Two children injured in explosion of hand-made bomb in Turkey's southeast

Two children were wounded due to the explosion of a hand-made and pipe-type bomb in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Dec. 4, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The explosion occurred after a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old played with an object they found on the street in the İskenderpaşa neighborhood of Diyarbakır's central Sur district.

HDP deputies visit jailed party members

Kurdish issue-focused Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputies Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar visited arrested party deputies, including HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, on Dec. 3 and 4. 

The visits came after the Turkish Justice Ministry's 1,5-month ban on visits to arrested deputies of the party was lifted. 

One soldier killed in PKK attack in eastern Turkey

One Turkish soldier was killed in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) mortar and mine attack in the Şemdinli district of the eastern province of Hakkari on Nov. 26.

The attack was carried out in the Derecik Gerdan Tepe military base area in Şemdinli and army started a wide operation in the area against the militants. 

Police detain HDP deputy Akdoğan in Turkey's southeast: Deputy PM

Police have detained a missing Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputy in the southeastern province of Hakkari, Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş said Nov. 7.

"My friends left a note just now. Three deputies had been fugitives. One of them, Nihat Akdağon was caught by police at the entrance to Hakkari," Kurtulmuş told reporters speaking after a cabinet meeting.

Nine opposition HDP lawmakers arrested, including co-chairs

Nine lawmakers from Turkey's opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), including its co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, were arrested on Nov. 4 in a probe that was launched against 14 of the party's lawmakers over alleged links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

EU envoys meet at urgent meeting on HDP detentions

European Union envoys in Ankara met on Nov. 4, under the head of the EU delegation to Turkey, over People's Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs, lawmakers are detained as part of "terrorism" investigations.

The ambassadors of EU member states are believed to be discussing a joint stance against the detentions, which they fear threaten further instability for the country.
