Five outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants, including those who killed a local politician on Sept. 14, were killed as part of ongoing operations in the Şemdinli district of the eastern province of Hakkari on Sept. 16, military sources have said. 

The last year of Turkey's full-fledged fight against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has shown us one certain thing: The Turkish military has never been so eager to manage the message and public opinion in its lifetime.

Turkish Armed Forces concluded its counter-terrorism operations in the Yüksekova district of southeastern Hakkari province, according to a statement made by the Turkish General Staff late April 20. 

Tens of thousands of people living in two southeastern provinces, Yüksekova in Hakkari and Nusaybin in Mardin, have fled their homes amid new clashes between security forces and militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The Turkish government's latest move to relocate the administrative centers of two border provinces could be seen as a fresh indication that it plans to push ahead with security-focused policies to deal with the chronic Kurdish problem.

The bodies of three men killed with gunshots to their head or chest were found in Turkey's southeastern provinces of Diyarbak?r and Hakkari on Jan. 6, amid ongoing clashes and curfews in the conflict-ridden region. 

Passersby had noticed the bodies of two men in the middle of an icy road leading to the village of Be?p?nar in Diyarbak?r's Ç?nar district. 

Turkey?s parliament hosted a collective protest by Peoples? Democratic Party (HDP) deputies against President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, as the national assembly gathered for its procedural opening ceremony on Oct. 1.

A Dutch journalist who was detained in Turkey?s southeastern province of Hakkari?s Yüksekova district on Sept. 5 on grounds of ?helping an armed terrorist organization,? has been released and was set to be deported, Do?an News Agency reported on Sept. 9.

Peoples? Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirta? said Kurds had no alternative but to declare autonomy in an atmosphere where deputies were not permitted to enter southeastern towns by governors, speaking at a rally in Vienna on Aug. 26.
