The Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Işık has reviewed a test for Turkey-made medium-altitude air defense missile Hisar-O which is expected to meet the needs of the Turkish Land Forces Command.         

"We have many systems developed by Roketsan and Havelsan corporations," Işık told the project's engineers after a test was conducted in the Central Anatolian province of Aksaray. 

Turkey's defense and aerospace industry will shift from its current foreign computer operating system to an existing Linux-based national software in light of security needs and license costs, according to the head of the state defense firm which has undertaken the project.

Turkey has launched the building phase of its amphibious landing platform dock (LPD) warship for the Turkish Naval Forces with a ceremony on April 30. 

Istanbul-based shipbuilder Sedef has been contracted by the Undersecretary for Defense Industries (SSM) to build the warship for the Turkish Naval Forces. 

Katyusha rockets fired by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants into the southeastern province of Kilis were a new threat for Turkey, according to Turkey's top defense procurement official, who said Kilis could be protected by armed drones.

Anka, an unmanned aerial vehicle developed by the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), carried out its debut missionary flight in the eastern province of Elaz?? on Feb. 5. 

Taking off from Elaz?? Airport, Anka ("Phoenix" in English) ascended to an altitude of 19,000 feet to carry out a four-hour exploration and observation flight. 

Turkey's first locally-made flagship, recently named "TCG Anadolu," is set to sail in 2021, Turkish daily Milliyet has reported. 

TCG Anadolu, which is currently being constructed at Sedef Shipbuilding in Istanbul, will become the "mother ship" of Turkey's navy as its largest and most well-equipped warship. 

Boeing delivered the fourth and final Peace Eagle Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft to the Turkish Air Force at Konya Air Base in Central Anatolia on Dec. 9, completing the Turkish AEW&C fleet and enhancing Turkey's airspace surveillance and battle management capabilities.

Currently engaged in wide-ranging military cooperation that expands from operations against ISIL to training soldiers together, Turkey and Qatar are now looking to further tighten defense-industry ties, as dozens of Turkish defense companies flocked to Doha on Oct. 6 to display their new products.

High-Tech Port by MÜS?AD, a defense industry fair organized by the Independent Industrialists? and Businessmen?s Association (MÜS?AD), will be held in the Qatari capital of Doha to display products and services of Turkey?s leading defense companies. 

The Turkish government has introduced a national airplane construction project entitled "A Turk in the sky," with jets completely designed and built by Turkish engineers and flying as soon as 2019.
