Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, said he and the European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier were doing all they could to get a Brexit deal, and if they failed it would be Britain's responsibility.

Jacques Chirac, a two-term French president who was the first leader to acknowledge France's role in the Holocaust and who defiantly opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, died on Sept. 26 at 86.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis hailed the legacy of former French President Jacques Chirac who died Thursday at 86.
In a tweet, written in French, the Greek leader said Chirac had left "an indelible mark on his country and the Continent."

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos praised late French President Jacques Chirac as "an emblematic personality" who succeeded in "boosting France's status on a European and international level."
In a statement expressing condolences after Chirac's death, Pavlopoulos praised Chirac's contribution to the project of European unification.

Romania's President Klaus Iohannis has said he is "deeply saddened" by the death of former French chief of state Jacques Chirac, whom he calls a genuine statesman and a true friend of Romania. "[I am] deeply saddened by the death of former French President Jacques Chirac, a great leader and a genuine statesman, and a true friend of our country.

Former French President Jacques Chirac has died at the age of 86, his family said.

The former head of state has died this morning. His family was next to him, the statement said.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul next month to attend a mediation conference.       

Former Romanian president Traian Basescu worked as an informer for the country's notorious communist-era secret police, the Securitate, the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled on Thursday.

The court confirmed the conclusion of an investigation conducted earlier by the National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives, CNSAS, which Basescu has disputed. He said he would appeal.

Bucharest Court of Appeal admitted on Friday the action started by the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives (CNSAS) and decided that former President Traian Basescu collaborated with the communist-era secret police known as the Securitate. The decision is not final.
