The Strategic Council on Nutrition, a new government advisory body that has stirred controversy before being fully appointed, held its maiden session on 10 January with members promising it will focus on raising awareness about healthy diet rather than coercion.

A cup of tea just got a bit more relaxing. Tea can be part of a healthy diet and people who drink tea may even be a little more likely to live longer than those who don't, according to a large study.

The promotion of the "Greek diet" is among the priorities of the new administration at the Rural Development and Food Ministry, Μinister Spilios Livanos stated on Monday in an interview with Skai TV.

Nine out of 10 Greeks have a friend or relative with cancer while one in two worry about falling victim to it themselves, according to a survey carried out by the Greek Cancer Society ahead of World Cancer Day on Tuesday. 

It also showed that most Greeks underestimate the impact of obesity and overconsumption of alcohol on their health, with most avoiding undergoing medical tests. 

The healthy eating subject brought children and chefs together in the kitchen. The event takes place against the backdrop of alarming statistics, in which Bulgaria ranks first in the number of overweight children. According to a UNICEF survey, their numbers have increased by 120% since the 1990s.

Children often hear the same recommendation - "Eat your veggies to grow big and strong". Eating healthy can also make us happier, according to an Australian study cited by BTA.
