Cost of construction materials in Cyprus rises further

An annual increase of 5.78% was recorded in the price index for construction materials for the period January-June 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, according to data published by the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat) on Tuesday.

The price index for construction materials for June 2023 reached 135.28 units (base year 2015=100).

Turks consume 3,762 calories per day: Research

With an average daily calorie intake of 3,762, Türkiye came in fifth place out of 184 countries on the ranking created by Oxford University.

Researchers from Oxford have recently ranked 184 countries in terms of their citizens' average daily calorie consumption, where Bahrain ranked first, followed by the U.S., Ireland, Belgium and Türkiye.

Fire breaks out in Corfu monument

A fire has broken out on Monday at the church of St. George in the Old Fort of Corfu. The fire is currently burning through the roof of the church and no injuries have been announced.

There are no adverse winds in the area but the operation to put the fire out is deemed extremely difficult. There are currently eight Hellenic Fire Service vehicles on scene to tackle the blaze.

A heatwave is expected to hit Turkey during Eid al-Adha, a four-day holiday that is set to take place between July 20 and July 23 this year, a meteorologist has warned.

According to the latest figures, the temperature across the Marmara, Aegean, eastern Mediterranean, and certain parts of Central Anatolia will be around 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above the seasonal averages.
