Priests bless schools as new academic year begins
Pupils of the third elementary school in Corinth watch Monday as a priest conducts the customary blessing ceremony marking the start of the new academic year. Similar ceremonies were held at more than 13,000 schools. According to unions, some 5,000 teaching spots remain vacant.

Women's blessing at in Jerusalem curtailed
A bid by a group of Jewish women to challenge tradition at Jerusalem's Western Wall with a blessing usually conducted by men was curtailed yesterday after a decision by Israel's attorney general.
The plan was the latest by the group, Women of the Wall, to push for equal prayer rights at the site, the holiest location where Jews are currently allowed to pray.

Is the 'Islamic State' Islamic?
On Feb. 25, 1994, an ultra-Orthodox Jew named Baruch Goldstein entered the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, occupied Palestine, with a machine gun. Seconds later, he opened fire on the Muslim worshippers, killing 29 people and wounding more than 125. He himself was lynched to death by the survivors in the mosque, but only to turn into a martyr in the eyes of his comrades.
