Turkish helicopter conducts flyover of Kos – military issues statement

A Turkish military helicopter was tracked and spotted flying over the eastern Aegean island of Kos on Thursday, reportedly at an altitude of less than 1,000 feet.

The aircraft entered the Athens FIR at 09.08 GMT, while a minute later it was over the eastern portion of the island, exiting the Athens FIR at 09.13 GMT.

Three rescued on Mount Dirfi

Two men and one woman were rescued by a Greek Navy helicopter in the early hours of Saturday on Mount Dirfi on Evia, after they were left stranded on the mountain following heavy snowfall in the area.

All three were reportedly in good health and were airlifted to Tanagra airport.

Police forensic officers on Friday were examining the fragments of a remote-controlled miniature helicopter carrying explosives which blew up while in flight in the southern coastal suburb of Vouliagmeni, damaging a parked car but causing no injuries.

Police gave no details of who was suspected of operating the helicopter nor of who the potential target of the device may have been.

Russian pilot scoops water from zoo pond to douse fire, birds perished

A helicopter that scooped water from the pond of a zoo in central Anatolia to douse a nearby wildfire has caused the death of several birds.

The firefighting helicopter came from the southern province of Adana on Aug. 22 to help locals extinguish a fire spreading in the forests of Mount Ali in Kayseri province.
