Meimarakis gives up parliamentary seat ahead of EU vote

New Democracy lawmaker Evangelos Meimarakis has given up his parliamentary seat ahead of European Parliament elections in May.
In a letter to House speaker Nikos Voutsis Thursday, Meimarakis said he would not make use of a recent amendment which allows MEP candidates to retain their seats in the Greek parliament.
The seat will be filled by Zoi Rapti.

Bill secures right of MPs to take part in Euro elections

The right of a Greek lawmaker to take part in European Parliament elections is enshrined in an amended multi-bill drafted by the Interior Ministry that will be submitted Tuesday and voted on in a parliamentary plenary session.
According to the amended multi-bill, lawmakers can run as candidates in European Parliament elections without having to give up their status as an MP at home.

Parliament approves revision of Constitution on church-state ties

Parliament today held the first vote on which constitutional amendments will be voted on in the Parliament that emerges from the next general election.

In that context, Parliament approved by a one-vote majority the government's proposal to amend Article 3 so as to explicitly establish the religious neutrality of the state.

Article 3 of Greek Constitution not subject to revision by next Parliament

Article 3 of the Greek Constitution, regarding relations between church and state, will not be subject to revision by the next Parliament, following a vote by lawmakers earlier Thursday.

MPs were on Thursday voting on which articles of the Constitution will be revised by the House that will be sworn in after this year's elections.
