US President Joe Biden has nominated Kenneth Merten as new US ambassador to Bulgaria. This is stated in a statement by the White House.

Merten (b. 1961) is a career diplomat. Until recently, he was a Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Haiti. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Global Talent Management.

Caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev held a meeting with the US Ambassador to Bulgaria Herro Mustafa, the press office of the cabinet announced on September 7.

Speaking during a meeting here on Wednesday with the US Department of Treasury's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Paul Ahern, which was also attended by the US Ambassador to Bulgaria Herro Mustafa, President Rumen Radev said that achieving effective results in the fight against corruption requires a concerted effort by partner countries, Radev's Press Secretariat reported.

Bulgaria's caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Svetlan Stoev and Minister of Economy, Kiril Petkov, and the US Ambassador H.E. Herro Mustafa on May 17 discussed topics from the shared agenda of the Bulgaria-US Strategic Dialogue, as well as the Bulgarian chairmanship of the Three Seas Initiative.

Bulgaria's caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Svetlan Stoev, the Minister of Economy, Kiril Petkov, and the US Ambassador H.E. Herro Mustafa discussed today topics from the shared agenda of the Bulgaria-US Strategic Dialogue, as well as the Bulgarian chairmanship of the Three Seas Initiative.

"I've worked with Joe Biden before, and I know he's a unifier. In his inaugural speech he touched upon the important themes - love, hope, optimism - that's exactly what America exemplifies," said U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria H.E. Herro Mustafa in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio after President Joe Biden assumed office officially.

Today Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria Herro Mustafa met to discuss efforts underway in both countries to address the coronavirus epidemic and additional U.S. Embassy-supported initiatives to assist Bulgaria during the state of emergency.

The good cooperation in the field of agriculture between Bulgaria and the USA will continue in the future. This was made clear during a meeting between Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Desislava Taneva and US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bulgaria Herro Mustafa.

The US Ambassador to Bulgaria, Herro Mustafa, chose a Bulgarian rose as the motif of her unique Ambassador's Coin. The Ambassador will present this coin as a gesture of respect as she engages with Bulgarians, BNT reported.

BSP National Assembly Chairman Korneliya Ninova met with United States Ambassador to Bulgaria Mrs. Herro Mustafa at the party's headquarters, the party's press centrе reported.
