Child, 8, drowns while on holiday in Crete
An 8-year-old girl from Israel drowned while on holiday with her family on the Greek island of Crete, local media reported on Thursday, saying the incident took place at around 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The child drowned in the swimming pool of the hotel where the family was staying in the resort town of Hersonissos in Iraklio. Her parents and other guests were unable to save her.

Two Britons dead, one seriously injured in Cretan road accident
Two British nationals died and one was seriously injured in northern Crete early Monday morning when the rented jeep they were in crashed into a parked motorcycle and ended up in a nearby field.
The accident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. at the seaside road of Malia, in the direction of the village of Stalida.
Foreign national arrested on Crete over firearm threat
Police on the island of Crete said on Saturday they had arrested a 36-year-old foreign national for threatening a 35-year-old female staff member at a hotel in the resort of Hersonissos with a firearm.
Local law enforcement authorities said they were investigating the circumstance surrounding the incident.
Corfu hotel project at Erimitis gets go-ahead
US firm NCH Capital has received the necessary approvals from the Economy Ministry for its investment plan concerning a five-star hotel it intends to develop in the Erimitis area of Corfu (pictured) and is hoping the construction license will be issued soon so work can get under way during 2019.
The timetable of the 120-million-euro project provides for the hotel to open in 2021.
