The Israeli military said Wednesday its fighter jets "began a series of strikes in Lebanon", raising fears of a war between the two countries after months of cross-border fire.

The military gave no further details of the air strikes, while Lebanese media reported air raids on southern villages including Adchit, Sawwaneh and Shihabiyeh.

Rockets launched from Lebanon struck the headquarters of the Israeli army's Northern Command, resulting in casualties and injuries. The Israeli military confirmed the attack, describing it as a barrage of "multiple launches" that targeted areas in the north, including a base near the border with Lebanon in Safed.

Overnight, approximately 30 rockets were launched from Lebanese territory into northern Israel, targeting areas such as Ein Zeitim and Dalton. The rocket attacks followed an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon, which wounded a Hezbollah commander.

The United States has confirmed conducting a targeted strike on Iraqi soil, resulting in the death of a senior commander from the Shiite group "Kataib Hezbollah." The strike, carried out in response to attacks on US military personnel in the region, occurred at 21:30 local time, according to a statement released by the US Armed Forces Central Command (CENTCOM) on social media.

An American air strike in the Iraqi capital killed a senior commander from a pro-Iran armed group who was involved in attacks on Washington's troops in the region, the U.S. military has said.

The United States has declared its intention to continue military strikes against pro-Iranian groups in the Middle East.

In the midst of the ongoing military conflict between the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas, the toll of Israeli soldiers has risen to 225, with the recent loss of 24-year-old Sgt First Class (res.) Shimon Yehoshua Asulin. Asulin, a member of the 924th Engineering Battalion of the Harel Brigade and a resident of Beit Shemesh, lost his life in the southern Gaza Strip.

So far, attacks in the Middle East have mostly been limited to conflict between Iran-backed groups on the one hand and the US, Israel and their allies, on the other. Despite the fact that no state in the Middle East is interested in entering a new conflict, each of them is behaving in a way that exponentially increases the likelihood of an escalation of war.

U.S. forces targeted sites used by Iran-backed militants in Iraq early Wednesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced, carrying out strikes that Iraqi sources said left two people dead.
