High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

Solving the Cyprus issue and reuniting the island inside the European Union would be a "game changer" for the country, the Union and the region, the EU's High Representative Federica Mogherini said in the European Parliament plenary on Wednesday, during a debate on Turkey's drilling activities around the island.

The outgoing EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Mogherini, invited Vucic and other Western Balkans leaders to a farewell working dinner at the EU headquarters in Brussels, and on that occasion, Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic thanked Mogherini for her efforts and support of Belgrade's European integrations, presenting her with a bouquet of white orchids.

Palmer was scheduled to address the official opening of the Belgrade Security Forum on Thursday, October 17, and speak on the topic of "Sustainable solutions for the Western Balkans".

European foreign ministers on Monday upped the ante against Ankara, heralding sanctions against companies and individuals involved in illegal prospecting for oil and gas in Cyprus' territorial waters while also committing to restricting arms exports to Turkey over its offensive in northern Syria. 

They also state that if this issue is on schedule, it will not be put "on the table" in the next few months.
"If this is meant to be discussed, it will be further in the future when the new European Commission is set up, which should be decided by the new High Representative and the EU Council of Foreign Ministers," Tanjug sources in Brussels said.

The EU Defense Ministers will hold an informal meeting in Helsinki today and tomorrow.

The role of new technologies and artificial intelligence in European defense will be key topics during the talks in the Finnish capital.

As European media report, EU members had officially named Borrell the successor of Federica Mogherini on the position of EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security.
Borrell will take over his duty at the end of October, it is said in the European Council statement.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and the EU Foreign Policy Chief, Federica Mogherini, discussed the situation in Eastern Mediterranean over a phone call, diplomatic sources said on July 15.           

European Union member states agreed Friday on the sanctions that the EU should impose on Turkey for its illegal drilling activities in Cyprus' exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

In a statement on Friday, the Greek Foreign Ministry said the government recognized Juan Guaido as president of Venezuela "in order for him to call for free, fair and democratic presidential elections."
