Slovenian motorway tolls going up
Driving on Slovenian motorways will cost more starting from 15 June after the government confirmed a 6.8% increase in tolls for all vehicles other than lorries. This will be the first toll increase in ten years.
The annual e-vignette for cars will cost €117.50, up from €110 at present. The monthly vignette will go from €30 to €32 and the weekly one from €15 to €16.

Karavanke tunnel with Austria remains closed for buses, trucks
Kranj – The Karavanke tunnel, the country’s motorway connection with Austria in the north-west of Slovenia, has reopened to personal vehicles while it remains closed in both directions for buses and trucks over 3.5 tonnes due to “technical problems”. The tunnel was fully closed between around 11:20am and 3pm.
Heavy traffic, congestion on sunny weekend
Ljubljana – Traffic has been slow on Slovenian roads throughout the day and the weekend, with long waiting times at some border crossings with Croatia and Austria. The situation has been further aggravated by an accident on the busy motorway near Postojna, SW, with the travel time prolonged by 90 minutes, according to the Traffic Information Centre.

Heavy trucks banned from overtaking on all Slovenian motorways
Ljubljana – Heavy trucks are banned from overtaking on the Slovenian motorways as of today after the ban kicked in on the A1 motorway, that is between Šentilj (NE) and Koper (SW), on 15 January. A violation carries a fine of 300 euro.
Long delays at border crossings with Croatia and Austria
Ljubljana – During the last summer school break weekend this year, traffic has been dense so far at Slovenia’s border crossings with Croatia and Austria as well as on certain motorways and the Ljubljana ring road. A tailback as long as some 10 kilometres has formed on the Slovenian side of the Karawanks tunnel towards Austria.
Ljubljana beltway tunnel fully renovated
Ljubljana – An upgrade of the eastern tube of the Golovec tunnel on the north-eastern section of the Ljubljana ring road has been completed. The tube will partly reopen to traffic on Saturday, lane restrictions will have been completely gone by Sunday evening.

Second tube of Ljubljana ring road tunnel to get facelift
Ljubljana – Renovation work on the eastern tube of the Golovec tunnel, located on the south-eastern section of the Ljubljana ring road, got under way on Monday after work on the western tube was completed. The upgrade, during which the tube will be closed to traffic, is expected to take two months with replacement train transport available at discount prices.
Ban on overtaking for lorries on A1 motorway enters into force
Ljubljana – A 6am-6pm ban on overtaking for lorries on the A1 motorway between Šentilj and Koper entered into force on Friday. Police controls will be beefed up.
The new regime will be in place for lorries weighing more than 7.5 tonnes. Overtaking will still be allowed for these vehicles during the day in three-lane sections, and on the entire motorway in night time.
Slovenia to get highway patrol unit at the beginning of 2021
Ljubljana – A highway patrol unit is to be established in Slovenia at the beginning of next year in a bid to boost the enforcement of traffic rules and improve safety on the Slovenian motorway network. It is expected to eventually assume other duties as well, including prevention of crime and illegal migration.
