Ambitious new project seeks to create first Greek archive of oral history

Though the most common method of capturing history today is writing it down, the oldest is undeniably retelling it. Long before the popularization of the study of history dawned at the turn of the 19th century, oral history was the only way for generations to pass on tales about wars and civilizations of the past - and often represented the only vehicle for cultural self-reflection.

City of Women celebrating 25 years and telling #HerStory

The exhibition launch will be held at Alkatraz Gallery in the Metelkova Mesto alternative arts centre, with the display focusing on creative endeavours of female film makers and video artists in Slovenia.

The feminist festival, running until 13 October, will be held under the slogan #HerStory, a pun referring to female, often forgotten or erased, history as well as female stories.

‘A migrant painter of modern times’ at SALT

Portrait painter Mihri, who lived between 1885 and 1954, had established herself as a prominent figure behind social change of her time by advocating the foundation of the Academy of Fine Arts for Women in the Ottoman Empire at the young age of 29. However, she remains barely referenced in the art historiography of Turkey since she spent a substantial part of her life abroad.

The end of a 'terrible year'

Global opinion leaders and observers of politics all agree that 2016 was a "terrible year." All have good reasons to complain: American liberals suffered from their grave presidential election defeat, British liberals suffered from the Brexit vote, and European liberals worry about the rise of the far right.
