History of the Gaza Strip

The Israeli army announced this morning that in response to the shelling from the Gaza Strip on Israel, it fired 130 targets in the Palestinian territory that belong to Hamas. At least 15 members of Palestinian armed groups have been killed in the Gaza Strip.

The violence escalated on Monday night after Palestinian militants fired rockets toward Jerusalem.

In response, the Israeli military launched air strikes against militant targets in the Gaza Strip.

He announced a sharp response.
"We will not tolerate attacks on our territory, on our capital, our citizens and soldiers. Whoever attacks us will pay dearly," Netanyahu pointed out, AP reports.
He stated that the fights will continue for some time.

Hamas has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack. No casualties or damage were reported.
The Israeli parliament was evacuated after the rocketing, and along the border with Gaza, Israel strengthened its forces.

Turkey on April 16 called on Israel to cease its aggressive policies against Palestinians.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry said that such policies damage peace and stability in the region, adding: "It is worrying that Israel's policies of oppression and violence against the Palestinians escalated during Ramadan."

Israel closed the Gaza Strip's offshore fishing zone on Aug. 16 following a night of cross-border fighting with Palestinian militants, the most intense escalation of hostilities in recent months.

Palestinian militants in Gaza fired two rockets into southern Israel after Israeli airstrikes targeted sites belonging to the territory's militant Hamas rulers.

A ceasefire brokered by Egypt and the United Nations took hold on the Israel-Gaza border on Feb. 25 after two days of fighting between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.

An Egyptian source and a senior Islamic Jihad official told AFP that a ceasefire came into effect early on Thursday.
The "ceasefire agreement comes as a result of Egypt's efforts" and has been endorsed by "Palestinian factions including Islamic Jihad", said the top Egyptian official.
An Islamic Jihad source confirmed the agreement to AFP.

A cease-fire was reached in Gaza on Nov. 14 following two days of bloody Israeli escalation.

Turkey on Nov. 13 denounced Israeli attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip, calling on the country to stop its state policy of aggression.
