Greece nixes Turkey treaty change bid

The Greek government Tuesday dismissed the latest call by Turkey for a renegotiation of the Lausanne Treaty of 1923, which set out the modern borders between the two countries, noting that the only difference between Athens and Ankara, which can be addressed in the context of exploratory contacts, is the delimitation of the maritime zones.

Civil Aviation extends flight restrictions through Aug. 31

A new notice to airmen issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday extends travel bans with Balkan and European countries through August 31, to protect passengers and residents of Greece from a rise in new coronavirus cases.

According to the notice:

- Flights between Greece and Turkey remain suspended to August 31 (midnight).

Shops gear up for easing of restrictions

Shops on central Ermou Street in Athens are preparing to reopen in early May when the government intends to relax restrictions it imposed in mid-March to contain the spread of Covid-19. The new plan on how restrictions will be gradually eased will be announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis early next week, possibly on Monday.

Preparations get underway for 1973 student uprising commemoration

Preparations got underway on Friday as Greece gears up for the commemorative events marking the 46th three-day anniversary of the Polytechnic student uprising of 1973.

"The message of the Polytechnic is timeless and continues to teach and inspire us," Εducation Minister Niki Kerameus said in a statement on Friday.
