Italian authorities have launched an investigation for negligent homicide in connection with the tragic shipwreck in Palermo that claimed the lives of at least six people.

According to the Daily Mail, the Termini Imerese Prosecutor’s Office, led by Ambrogio Cartosio, is investigating why the luxury yacht capsized near the Porticello harbor shortly before 5 AM on Monday.

According to state broadcaster ERT, the fire service has also launched a sworn administrative examination into the case, which could lead to the firefighter being fired.
