Italian authorities have launched an investigation for negligent homicide in connection with the tragic shipwreck in Palermo that claimed the lives of at least six people.

According to the Daily Mail, the Termini Imerese Prosecutor’s Office, led by Ambrogio Cartosio, is investigating why the luxury yacht capsized near the Porticello harbor shortly before 5 AM on Monday.

Three women fell victim to femicide in a single night — two in Istanbul and one in Ankara— each killed by their husbands, underscoring the ongoing struggle to address this pervasive issue.

A 60-year-old stationmaster who has been in pretrial detention for 16 months over his role in causing Greece's deadliest train disaster was conditionally released on Thursday. 

The investigative magistrate handling the case accepted his request to replace temporary detention with house arrest and a ban on leaving the country. 

Vasilis Samaras, the stationmaster of Larissa who was held responsible for the tragic train accident in Tempi, has been released under specific conditions. Although his 18-month pre-trial detention was set to expire on September 1, he has been granted release with the conditions of a travel ban and house arrest.

The prosecutor of the mixed jury court asked for the guilt of the two brothers, aged 41 and 49, who are sitting in the dock for the murder of journalist Giorgos Karaivaz, while attributing the motive to the revelations the journalist had announced about organized crime in the country. The brothers are accused of “executing” the contract of death.

Police in Thessaloniki have arrested four men on suspicion of beating a 52-year-old man before throwing him from balcony 6.5 meters above the ground.

The victim is being treated in hospital for injuries sustained in the attack and fall.

A 30-year-old firefighter has been suspended from duty on suspicion of being involved in a fan riot outside a volleyball stadium near Piraeus last December in which a police officer suffered fatal injuries.

According to state broadcaster ERT, the fire service has also launched a sworn administrative examination into the case, which could lead to the firefighter being fired.
